I saw this on reddit: Epigrams in Programming
#46 made my head asplode! #93 reminded me of a conversation Bryan Roach and I had once (how I read #93 with an asploded head is beyond the scope of this post).
46. Like punning, programming is a play on words
93. When someone says “I want a programming language in which I need only say what I wish done,” give him a lollipop.
112. Computer Science is embarrassed by the computer.
114. Within a computer natural language is unnatural.
119. Programming is an unnatural act.
Programming IS an unnatural act.
Forgive my incredulity, but what programming have you done?
I programmed my TiVo last night. And before that, my VCR.
HA!
You jest, but those are high-level programming languages.
Tivo is a joy to program! How can you hate it?
I don’t hate it! I
er… I love my TiVo. Weeeener dogs are unnatural too, and I like those.
Indeed, programming is an unnatural act. In college, whilst studying electrical engineering, Bryan Zancho and I developed a theory: the goal of the ECE department was to overwhelm your brain until you went insane, because only an insane person could honestly understand the ways of electricity. Software development is much the same, for after all low-level assembly language is nothing more than high-level electricity manipulation.
I’m not sure which conversation we had which relates to #93, but I do want a lollipop!
110. Editing is a rewording activity.
Hahahaha!
