Today was my first day back in the office after a hiatus of three and a half weeks. It was good to be back. I even got in early which just goes to show you that I’m really not feeling 100% myself yet
Right after I got in and said my morning hellos to a few co-workers, my beloved lady-friend walks in to tell me she’s going to Lake Villa to see a cardiologist! What horrible news to start the day with! Her parents were apparently already en route to pick her up and whisk her away. It was a sad, shocking and scary thing to hear.
All day goes by and I return home from work to no news about her condition. I call and Danielle’s brother Chad returns a call and tells me that she is still at the hospital getting tests done. This was about 5:30 pm (my boss Ari let me leave early since I had telecommuted during my leave).
Six PM rolls by, followed by 7, then 8, which was abruptly interrupted by 3pm again, only to give way to 9 pm. I then received a voicemail around 10:30 pm (as I was next door) from Danielle giving me an update on her condition.
She’s got mononucleosis. This makes sense as all of her symptoms match up quite well with the disease. She’ll be staying in Lake Villa for a few more days until she feels capable of coming back. I hope this doesn’t ruin her semester (as it has a few other people I know). I also very much hope that I don’t develop it either. To this extent, don’t be surprised if I’m overdoing it on hand sanitizer in the next few days…
Fortunately she didn’t have anything worse, like a heart condition that required immediate attention or the dread disease stereo which is only second to Dolby Surround Sound. There was a brief period in the 70s and 80s where quadraphonic was a menace, but fortunately it’s gone the way of the Bubonic plague (hopefully not locked away in a government lab somewhere…)
Actually, there was a moment in the ER when the doctor feared stereo, but luckily the tests came back negative.
You’re so silly. And incredibly helpful! What a help you’ve been this week. Thank you for loving me.
