Last night I neglected to turn my alarm clock on…for the second time this week. The first time I ended up waking up at 9:45 and rushed to get to work. Today I missed a monthly meeting and would still be asleep if it wasn’t for my dad calling me at 10:30.
Damnit. I set the time for the alarm, but neglected to turn the thing on.
Any time this happens I find myself feeling like such a loser for oversleeping. It’s a rather irrational feeling, as naturally waking up isn’t something I have much control over (but we could debate that point).
I’ve got to start double-checking that clock.
I’ve done this myself several times in the past. It’s an awful feeling! That’s why I use two alarm clocks now. It may sound excessive, but it really works and I haven’t overslept since. The odds that you’ll set two alarms incorrectly on the same night are extremely low.
One alarm is kept near my bed, and I allow myself to snooze that one. The second one is kept farther away. I set it for later, to the latest time I can possibly get up and still get where I need to be.
I’m still hoping for some sort of alarm clock that can only be turned off in the shower. But that doesn’t exactly solve the problem of setting it…
